Next Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday all 5th graders will be taking their STAAR tests. 

    Tuesday, 5/11: Reading

    Thursday, 5/13: Science

Please make sure they arrive on time each morning, having had a good night's sleep and eaten a healthy breakfast!

They do not need to bring backpacks but should bring their lunch boxes and a book into the classroom with them.

We've started reading out last Classis of the year, "Across Five Aprils". Please ensure that your student has access to a copy. The version we will be referencing for page numbers and using in class has ISBN number 9780425182789.

        **This is a "Classics to Keep" book. Each student should have their own copy to read from and annotate in.

Math:

Hello Spartan Family!

STAAR Testing is fast approaching! We are continuing to review key concepts in-depth and are practicing test-style assessments to prepare.

Mr. Dorazio

History:

We are well into our Civil War unit, which will carry us through a majority of the remainder of the quarter. We will discuss key battles, generals, and other factors that lead to the outcome of the war.

Science:

Students are moving beyond the bounds of Earth as we move into our Astronomy unit.

Writing:

We are taking a break from paragraph writing to focus on grammar and sentence construction.

English Language Arts:

We finished reading "A Wrinkle in Time" this week. Next week, we will read "The San Jacinto Corn" short story before moving on to our next classic.

Our next classic is "Across Five Aprils". Please ensure that your student has access to a copy. The version we will be referencing for page numbers and using in class has ISBN number 9780425182789.

In Poetry, we are discussing and memorizing "The Builders" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. 

Math:

Hello Spartan Family!

As we continue to review the key concepts we've covered throughout the year, we have also begun using basic algebra and familiarizing ourselves with graphs and graphing.

As we wrap up learning about the biosphere, we will learn about resources Earth provides us: natural, renewable, and non-renewable.

Students should now be familiar with all the steps of writing a paragraph. We will continue to practice writing paragraphs and short essays about varying subjects.

We are looking at the biosphere and the ways all living things interact together on Earth. Specifically, we will continue learning about animal classification and how it is used.

This week we began our United States Geography unit by describing where the U.S. is in relation to other locations on a map. Next week, we will get more specific as we learn about U.S. regions and individual states.

Science:

This week, we were introduced to the geosphere. We'll continue observing various rock types and the effects of erosion on land materials next week.

Writing:

This week we focused on identifying and writing topic sentences. Next week we will continue building paragraphs by adding body sentences and conclusions.
