  Welcome back!

Important Information:

~Winter Break will begin next week (12/21-1/3). Stay safe and happy holidays!

~Independent Work week will be from 1/19-1/21. Information on the Fifth Grade project will be sent out in emails today, be on the lookout!

~DL families: if your scholar does not have their 5B Math books or 2B Grammar book, those will be available at the front office for pickup at your convenience following the break.

English Language Arts:

We have begun reading "Where the Red Fern Grows." Please ensure that your student has access to a copy. The version we will be referencing for page numbers has ISBN number 978044041267.

        **This is a "Classics to Keep" book. Each student should have their own copy to read from and annotate in.

For Poetry, we recited "The Bells" by Edgar Allen Poe today! The next poem will be announced on Monday, January 4 when we return to school.

Math:

Hello Spartan Family!

This week, we were introduced to decimals. After break, we will review what we learned this week and continue our work in this unit.

History:

When we come back from break, we will be moving into our Geography section. Look forward to pulling out maps and learning to use them.

Science:

We will continue being in touch with ecosystems and environments, but we will be going large-scale and looking at the Earth and its systems as a whole.

Grammar/Writing:

Following break, we will review all of the parts of speech and sentence elements that we've learned in Grammar this semester. We'll start applying those to our Writing as we begin looking at and learning about prose writing.

English Language Arts:

For Poetry, we have been working on "The Bells" by Edgar Allen Poe. We will recite it next Friday (12/18) before Winter Break.

Math:

Hello Spartan Family!

This week, we finished up Unit 4 on multiplying and dividing fractions! In our next unit, we will work with decimals, beginning with place value beyond the decimal point.

This week we'll be looking at England's Golden Age. Students will use various written and verbal methods to make connections between the events of this period and earlier times.

Science:

We continue our investigation into ecosystems and their changes. Next week, we will have an assessment to complete the unit, and we will turn in our research papers.

Grammar/Writing: 

In Grammar next week, we'll continue working with Possessive Nouns. We will practice using them in sentences, analyzing them, and diagramming them. 

In Writing, we'll continue working on ways to describe people and ourselves with detail and accuracy.

   Welcome back!

Reminders:

No school on Monday (12/7), enjoy the long weekend! Friday (12/11) will be a full school day.

It's getting chilly again! Please send your child with layers, it's better to have too many than too few.

This week, we are wrapping up instruction for multiplying and dividing with fractions. Next week, we will review Unit 4 and end the week with our Unit 4 test.

This week we'll be looking at the Glorious Revolution in England. We'll learn about changes in English government that took place and analyze pros and cons of these changes.

Science:

This week, we began researching human disruptions to ecosystems. Next week, we'll write a paper using our research.
